BOTOX® is the single most popular cosmetic treatment performed each year. At Cope Cosmetic Dermatology, we offer both cosmetic and medical BOTOX to help you achieve your goals.

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX is a type of injectable treatment called a neuromodulator. It’s made with a special form of bacteria that can bind to nerve receptors and prevent muscle movement. This process can have many benefits, both cosmetic and medical. In fact, BOTOX was originally developed as a medical treatment decades ago and has only recently become popular as a cosmetic treatment.

BOTOX can be beneficial as a medical treatment because it can prevent unwanted muscle movements, glandular activity, or tension. BOTOX is similarly beneficial as a cosmetic treatment because it can relax furrows and block muscle movements responsible for wrinkles and fine lines (called dynamic wrinkles). It’s an incredibly effective anti-aging treatment but it can also accomplish a variety of other cosmetic goals.

What Are the Benefits of BOTOX?

The medical benefits of BOTOX include:

  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
  • Muscle spasms
  • Chronic migraines
  • TMJ/TMD

What Can I Expect From BOTOX Treatment?

BOTOX can be administered in as little as 15 minutes. To begin, you’ll consult our experienced injectors to determine your goals and the appropriate treatment plan. Then, your treatment area will be cleansed and sterilized. BOTOX is carefully placed in the underlying muscles with a very fine needle. Once complete, you can return to your regular schedule.

BOTOX Maintenance

After your BOTOX treatment, it’s important to avoid exercising, bending over, or lying down since this can increase your circulation and cause the product to spread to unwanted areas. It’s also important to avoid hot environments like showers or saunas, as well as rubbing, touching, or massaging your face. It’s possible to have some light bruising, but this can be prevented by avoiding blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen before and after treatment. You may have some minor redness at your injection sites, but this subsides quickly.

BOTOX takes about two weeks to produce results – at this time, you can return for more units if needed. BOTOX can last for 3-6 months before it begins to fade. Our team will help you understand when to return for your next appointment to maintain your results.
