What is Kybella?
A double chin can have many causes but for some people, a double chin won’t go away with even the strictest diet and exercise. Called submental fat, a double chin can be purely genetic and exist no matter what weight you’re at. Although liposuction has always been the treatment of choice for a double chin, Kybella® is a new non-surgical treatment option.
Kybella is a unique injectable treatment that can reduce fatty tissue under the chin. It’s made with synthetic deoxycholic acid, an enzyme normally found in your digestive system that is responsible for metabolizing dietary fat. When it’s injected under the chin, it begins to break down fatty tissue so it can be permanently flushed from the body.
What Are the Benefits of Kybella?
Kybella can get rid of a double chin without the need for surgery. It can permanently remove fat from underneath the chin for a more sculpted, defined look in patients who struggle to feel confident with a double chin. It only requires a short injection session and requires no downtime or incisions.
What Can I Expect From Kybella Treatment?
To begin your treatment, you’ll discuss your goals with our experienced injectors and create a personalized plan. Kybella can require multiple treatment sessions and our team can help you understand the amount needed for your goals. A topical anesthetic will be applied so you’re comfortable. Once you’re ready, the treatment area will be sterilized and made ready. The product will be injected using a very fine needle in a grid pattern under the chin to ensure the product is evenly placed. Once complete, you can return home.
Kybella Maintenance
After treatment, it’s normal to have swelling and sensitivity in the area. It’s important to avoid exercising or laying down – also avoid rubbing, touching, or massaging the area. It can be helpful to use an ice pack to manage swelling and sensitivity. Finally, avoid makeup or harsh skincare products and instead use a gentle, unscented cleanser and moisturizer.
Most patients benefit from a package of six treatments spaced one month apart. You’ll begin to see results 4-6 weeks after your first session and each subsequent treatment will improve your results. Kybella can achieve permanent results with a full package of treatments.
